  wow ok, a truly rotten awful movie. senselessly thrashing around with multiple Big Issues on the sexuality and mental health spectrum, but with no apparent point, no funny jokes, a plot like swiss cheese and some ill-fitting Gilliam-esque fantasy segments that add no enjoyment at all. offensive, but not in a fun way. makes 2013 seem like a very, very long time ago.

  however... aside from the plot, it does have several hallmarks of the subsubgenre we know and love as #bigbeatcinema (ironic narration, retro rock and soul soundtrack, crime)

  really not what i'd expected and probably even better. laughs! accents. take that. horrible rich people. hair tinsel.

  so sean baker makes political films that 'both sides' enjoy. this seems to puzzle people. but i think all he's really doing differently is bothering to give working class people some interiority. #berniewouldvewon
