Troll 2 1990
my first unrated review, a new procedure! and i've been ruminating on this one. i think, to some extent, i loved troll 2 with very little irony. of course yeah it has a strange, deeply mistranslated script, and actors inventing new inflections in the english language. but someone put some serious love into those little masks. i like the plant prosthetics too. i think the makeup on the witch lady was bespoke. is my taste so skewed to post irony…

what wild casting!! what a delightful little movie!! this has everything: new york italian americans, potentially themes of christmas, opera, the most beautiful apartment and kitchen sets of all time, hot good fucking. this is easily a top 3 nic cage performance for me. he looks GOOD here. i LOVE this brooding emo opera obsessed baker with a wooden hand. his chemistry with cher is HOT; this makes a lot of romantic comedies look like white bread butter sandwiches.

there's some really cool moments in this. hunter schafer stays miss pretty face despite getting beat the fuck UP. i'll be thinking abt the shot of the shadow reaching out behind her as she bikes for a while. but it's like if you're gonna do a whole breeding horror scary monster parasite thing u gotta show me something scarier than a white woman with an unblended wig.
