There isn’t much to like here besides some very good practical effects and an outstanding Mario Bava / 60s Italian horror sequence.
The first Beetlejuice was a story that was very much about the Maitlands. And once you remove them from the narrative of the sequel, you realize how little you care about the Deetz family
A movie that I liked, but wanted to love. But that could be my fault for bringing in my unrealistic expectations after Fury Road.
Still couldn’t find a real reason why George Miller needed to tell this story. He answers questions from Fury Road that I didn't need to be answered.
Having said that though, I still think that Miller is best living director of action sequences.
Saw it again and the second viewing was much better. In a decade, I could easily see this being reevaluated as a misinterpreted classic. See you in 2034.
