The biggest - and obvious - message permeating throughout this movie is the oppressive nature of capitalism (and by extension imperialism), this being Bong Joon Ho’s specialty. I finally got around to watching this after being in my watchlist for so long, and wow, what a great watch. It was one filled to the brim with subtext, doomed romance, and unfulfilled dreams and expectations.
