i kinda enjoyed the vibes here. even with the stock horror music and interesting(?) effects it felt creepy in a unique way. the Appalachian mountains are a goated place to tell stories clearly. i do think, however, that i would have enjoyed this a little more having read the original comic… often times i have my personal human encyclopedia to give me scene by scene asides for superhero/comic stuff, so perhaps i must go read the source material now and enjoy the mignola art!
it’s been a while since a film left me this depressed after watching it. this film had beautifully shot scenes, excellent performances, and a pretty good narrative structure. i do think that the runtime was a little long, and i wish that the POV switching between characters started a little earlier in the film. but overall, it was definitely a film i’ll be thinking about for a long time.
i wanna say something dumb like “oh to be punching a bag of basmati rice while some guy drops sick beats on a tabla”… and at the same time i also wanna write a serious essay…
but i’ll just leave it at i’m really glad this movie was made and i got to watch this in theaters🫶🏽
the only reason why i’m giving this such a high rating is because it’s a certified monty classic for the girls
