  i had never watched this, but grew up in a zeitgeist that revered it. therefore, i assumed that this was the kind of movie that had been thoroughly imitated, that the "original" would feel underwhelming. very untrue. the buddy cop setup works so well. i did not expect to like brad pitt's performance just as much as morgan freeman's: its so, unglamorous?, in a straightforward, bullheaded way. the grime of the city looks incredible, the one action scene is genuinely…
