I went to a screening of this at BAMPFA immediately following The Enigma Of Kaspar Hauser, both with Werner Herzog in attendance. Herzog introduced the film talking about how the perspective shifts throughout the film, first from Graham Dorrington to Marc Anthony Yhap, and then from Yhap to his rooster for one of the final scenes. He also said that the idea for the film was presented to him by one of his sons, who originally wanted to make the…

The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser 1974
I saw this at another BAMPFA screening where Herzog was in attendance, this time as part of a months-long retrospective that they're having of his filmography. He introduced the film talking about Bruno Schleinstein's upbringing in asylums from the age of 3-23, and the depth of his performance.

2046 2004
This feels like the culmination of so many themes and ideas that Wong Kar-wai had been experimenting with and using since his first film, As Tears Go By in 1988. Happy Together 1997
This was the first "big" Wong Kar-wai film I hadn't seen that I finally watched in going through his filmography, and damn. Here he really steps back and instead of having multiple storylines going on simultaneously (Fallen Angels) or back-to-back (Chungking Express), or featuring one character who is impacted by multiple other ones coming in and out of his life (Ashes Of Time), making this WKW's most restrained work since his debut, As Tears Go By.
And it makes sense…Translated from by -
