Scandalous, hyper and colourful, The Great Gatsby succeeded in rendering the essence of the Roaring Twenties in an aestheticized manner. Despite its exuberant eclecticism, abundance of special effects, crowded frames and the alternation between different narrative times, the movie manages to maintain a coherent line throughout. It seems to me that the scenario tried to compress too many narrative lines in one movie. While I can understand why they've paid attention to the introductive parts ( Mr. Sayer trying to accommodate with his new job, the presentation of the hospital, the studies he conducted on Lucy and finding out that L-DOPA could be an antidote etc.) which actually compound the main plot, I can't fully understand why there are so many side stories.
