Bresson might have been onto something when he only hired people without acting experience because the camera can capture so much from a single inexpressive face, but my God is it hard to get invested when every person talks like a robot.
The only character I cared about was the donkey, which sure, might have been the point (if it weren't for some other Bresson movies with the same type of "acting") and it really made me yearn for a Bresson-directed live action adaptation of 'Animal Farm' - no dialogue, just animals and animal sounds - which we'll never get.
