Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story 2024
Love Liza, but this doc has a weird format, strange editing, and puts an oddly positive spin on almost everything. Plays like an “In Memoriam” piece (even though she’s still alive!) rather than offering anything insightful about this icon. And the unceasing observations about her “vulnerability” made me uncomfortable. Three stars for the archival footage though.

A chapter of Congolese history explained in a freeform way with vintage video footage, excellent jazz music, and intriguing new documentary techniques. So fantastic, I watched it twice (but I’m a nerd for both history and bebop).
