  Seoul Station 2016

  Unlike Train to Busan, which had a beating heart beneath the gore, Seoul Station has absolutely no chill. This film is far more bleak and with far less emphasis on likable characters (almost none at all!)

  While TTB showed us how normal people pull together during a crisis, Seoul Station wants us to look at the people who fell through the cracks before the crisis even started, and for the most part it works. It's compelling, well-animated and tense. But again, so cold-hearted as to be surprising it came from the same director.

  Emergency balances two incredibly different tones like it trained for it all its life. Manages to be genuinely funny while simultaneously confronting gravely serious subject matter - spotlighting certain social issues by posing a very simple scenario involving realistic and likable characters. It's tightly executed and it works.
