Destroyer 2018
Watching this film in theaters again adds a whole new level of intensity that seeing it at home cannot replicate. The score is emotional, and seven years later Erin’s story is even heavier than I remember (in a really powerful way.) This is about a woman who you think sets out to seek justice but in the end is trying to redeem herself of her past selfishness. This is a great inversion of the typical neo-noir male cop movie trope with an enjoyable cast.

There is no seduction in this painfully heterosexual story.
This was a beautifully shot and beautifully detailed movie, but I think Eggers can’t see the forest for the trees. Watching this a second time unfortunately made me enjoy this movie less and less.
Thomas should have been properly seduced into Orlok’s castle, without that he sort of ends up a bit of an idiot, albeit a mostly lovable one. I think Lily-Rose did great work with what she had, but…
