  I think the fact that this movie is banned in japan shows how much they just try to deny the heinous things their soldiers did... from the rape of Nanjing to the kidnapping of Korean “Comfort Women” . This movie doesn’t even begin to show the horrors committed. It is a beautiful movie though and maybe it was a good thing it was watered down a small bit because any closer to the truth would shock audiences too much.
