Ok, there's no understating it this time. This is one of the best anime films I've ever seen.

Where do I even start. This is one of the most specifically crafted, confident films in existence this side of Blade Runner 2049. It's an incredible, one-of-a-kind vision in so many ways. Firstly, there's the animation. This is one of the most gorgeous films ever created; insanely ambitious, with its distinctive style, soaring landscapes, incredible detail, ridiculous fluidity and jaw-dropping colour palette.…

    BEST ANIMATED FEATURE BABY!

Rewards second viewing and was DEFINITELY worth checking out on the big screen. I definitely don't understand all of it, but it's easier to follow on round 2. Still gets me emotional at times. I'm still so happy this won an academy award, and I'm rooting for it to become a potential gateway for indie animation's future success

I used to really not like this one, admittedly for very stupid reasons. It's a good war film and a great makeup showcase, but the fantasy aspect still doesn't do much for me. It's played so directly that in execution it doesn't feel like an allegory so much as a different movie that just exists within the war narrative, which for some reason makes it hard for me to care about Ofelia. Definitely works better when you haven't gone in expecting a fantasy and been completely wrong about it, but I still don't love it

I was already gonna give this a very low rating. This movie is disgusting through and through with no real meaning or story other than shitloads of nudity and bodily excrements, with random footage of real dead bodies spliced in presumably to pretend it's making a point. But that bit with the kids pushed it over the edge, that bit is just straight up not ok to film. No fucking wonder the actress got banned from her home country.

Yeah, definitely a lot better than the trailer suggests, although to me it felt long for a 90-minuter but hey ho. The score is really interesting

Also if you know my music taste you know the overlap between it and the kind of music that appears in films is nonexistent, so I got unreasonably excited when I heard To Love by Suki Waterhouse playing, considering that is currently on repeat for me
