This movie was indeed as silly as I thought. Robert Pattinson was excellent and I could tell he had a vision/character for the different Mickeys. Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo brought even more comedy relief to the overall sad (and relatable) plot of finding value and purpose in the mundane aspects of life. I want to adopt one of the little aliens.

I’ve never felt more conned by a movie trailer. This thriller was everything except what I expected it was going to be. The decision to break the movie up into sections that were shown out of order… initially confusing, in the end– perfect. The kill count got crazy and I began to start wondering if anyone was going to survive, which is my favorite kind of movie.

This movie wrecked me. I was reminded of my Mimi in her final years, I cried for the struggle this family and many others were put through, and I found so much admiration for this strong mother. I didn’t know a lot about the Brazilian dictatorship going into this movie, so I appreciated the historical references, the Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo architecture, and the overall cultural representation. The cinematography during the first act felt so special and intentional, especially when the vintage video camera and film reels came into play. Every moment leaned into its purposeful storytelling. I loved it. Great watch!

I watched this movie at 3:00am on a weeknight after napping for 4 hours. I was secretly angry at this film for beating The Wild Robot at the Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature Film, but after watching I see what the hype is about. The animation is so unique, each animal has their own point of view and storyline, a couple of scenes brought me to tears (like The Wild Robot). This was truly something special and I recommend it to anyone who has ever enjoyed an animated movie, this one will be among your favorites.
