Okay, sure why not. Some great moments Willem Dafoe carried. I think though that I'm so far removed from the Vietnam War that my perception of this film is that much different from generations above me and especially academy voters in 1987. So don't think I can make any statement in regards to this as a best picture win. But go Willem!
Going into this I had heard that it was problematic, try hard progressive, white savior and much more. And it absolutely is all of those things! it feels like its been meticulously crafted for some people to feel good about how "not racist" they are. But God no one talks about how boooooring this movie is, just painfully BORING! I genuinely cannot fathom liking this enough to vote it best picture. It's a no.
I totally get what it was going for, its just that a really important part of horror comedys working is that it has be funny. At least just a little bit and, this wasn't at all? I still liked watching it but yeah no.
