The Brutalist 2024
Saw a lot of praise for this one and truly don’t understand where it’s coming from. Jumping the shark post-intermission is generous. The acting was stellar but the direction, writing, and sequencing all fell flat. The writer and director take after Brody’s character: too full of themselves to let things go

Complete and total crap. The pinnacle of “person in the center for viral clipability” shot composition. Relies on the audience to be afraid of “the color red” and “every predictable trope and jumpscare” to be an actual “scary movie.” The half star rating is for Nic Cage trying at all. Besides the terrible writing and acting, not a single person behaves normally and there is zero on screen chemistry between any characters. In this way especially it flies in the face of everything that makes a “subversive” scary movie scary.
