easily the most racist film i’ve ever seen. sadly, none of the blatant racism shown here comes with the vintage feel of a dated depiction of racism and sexism that we may feel when watching other films of this period. these images have not yet grown cold. they are still hot because history has not stopped reproducing the same forms of violence that also drove the production of these images. rules of engagement rehearses contemporary ideologies of islamophobia and anti-palestinian racism to a tee.
good buildup, but ultimately fails to resolve the tension in a satisfying way.

A silly and campy film with a sheer unending stream of product placements. All the kitsch is offset by some beautifully theatrical scenes. The tennis-as-monogamy trope was a fun premise and worked for me (and yes, everything about this movie is over the top, on the nose, and obvious so dont be a snob… live a little). Nothing mind blowing but I had a great time seeing it, no regrets.
