To be, or to Airbnb. That is the question.

Dharma Films, they’ve done it again,
    Recycle the formula, never refrain,
A vapid film, one dimensional cast,
    Glorified trauma, India’s past.

Malhotra in truth, puts a fine display,
Yet I, the viewer, feel dismay,
For the film paints an outline, not a personality,
An army man with a lone trait, his nationality.

Perhaps a nation, thrown in a schism,
Could use an honest portrait of nationalism.
The film is decent, the pacing all wrong,
The final fifteen minutes could’ve been the entire song.

    I must confess,
    This was an absolute mess,
    Masquerading as thoughtful art,
The third act was, but a pretentious fart.

    Loopholes galore, lo and behold!
    Plots established, that never unfold,
The script dilapidated, semblance of gout,
Themes derived from Peele’s Get Out.

Pugh was perhaps, the saving grace,
A dictionary of emotions, her forlorn face,
    Yet nonetheless, questions remain,
Like what happened to the fucking airplane?!

    I have a question, o kind sire,
What is grief, what is desire?
    Blood and bond, familial sorrows,
A life of suffering, bleak tomorrows.

    Costa covers above and all,
In monochrome frames, colorful as fall,
For black and white are but two ends, two seams,
    The camerawork cherishes all in-betweens.

My words, they elude me today,
Thoughts and reflections, lead me astray,
A timeless classic, this film has been,
Suppose memories of Godard, painted onscreen.

What is grief, what is desire?
I know now, as this film I admire.
