  Really great movie, honestly. This time around I ended up thinking a lot about the AIDS motifs in this story created by a gay man in the 90s. Spitting blood all over a guy's face and shouting "you don't know where I've been". General fluid exchange things. Growing metaphorical infection. Rare cancer support groups. It's an interesting layer.

  Also you can't convince me that Marla isn't a trans woman in the same system.

  It's kind of an odd slice of life film that turns into a horror movie in the final act.

  Sissy Spacek plays a Carrie that I really want to coddle, and there are so many strangely empathetic and human touches in those horror moments, my favorite of which is how she walks kind of stiffly with her arms not quite touching her sides because she's sticky and wet from the pig blood and feels gross.
