I am a real Kevin Smith fan, for better or worse, but the acting, lighting and filmmaking in the majority of this film is deplorable. I think the story, nostalgia and overall craft improves greatly in the end of the film though.
Is it a good movie? No, not really.
Will it hit Kevin Smith fans in the feels? Yeah, probably.

I kind of wish I hadn't read about the true events that inspired the film. This movie could've been so much more. It was subtle to a fault. Steve Carell's character came off more as an eccentric egomaniac than a paranoid schizophrenic, causing the plot to become a jumbled mix of chaos. I can appreciate them not making him overt in our cultural idea of a paranoid schizophrenic but there were only a few moments when he acted truly odd…
