Movie alternates between bludgeoning you on the nose with metaphors and pulling on weighty strands that led nowhere. It’s ambition deserves credit, but then the fact that generative AI is used in multiple ways leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth—why cut corners in a film that seemingly cut nothing else?
Jesse Plemons needs to find himself a new agent. He is now type-cast as absolutely swag-less men in every role he plays. Sometimes they’re good. Often they’re bad. No matter, they always are just the lamest dudes around. Here, his character is referred to as “fatso” unironically. That adequately sums up the quality of writing found throughout.
Fun movie that never really does what it seems to set out to (reflect on grief and the day-to-day pain of living) and ends up feeling more like an extended Expedia commercial.
