  I saw this at a preview screening, and I have... many thoughts.

  I should preface this review by saying I am slightly fanatical about the Brontës. I am also not generally a fan of period dramas (especially biopics) that market themselves as 'modern', 'updated' or 're-imaginings' (although sometimes they can be done extremely well with the right team behind them: Marie Antoinette and The Great come to mind).   Meandering and bleak. The creepy sexualisation of Nastassja Kinski's character (she was only 12 at the time of filming!) really put me off. Robby Müller's cinematography is beautiful, though.
