  The Descent 2005

  I loved this movie, so know that before I explain my major criticism. It’s anxiety inducing claustrophobia still hasn’t been matched 15+ years later. 

  However, it’s a bit overproduced in my opinion. Booming orchestral scores take me out of the experience more than they create atmosphere. 

  The first half of the film, before the monsters are introduced, is much scarier than the second half. I’d love to see that movie made. 

  All that said, this movie is one of a kind and is with out a doubt in the horror hall of fame.

  Prince of Darkness 1987

  I really love the concept and the ending, but everything before that felt a bit messy to me. The visual language didn’t seem as polished as Halloween or The Thing. 

  I want to give this another try at some point. I had to watch it over two days, and that may have affected my viewing.
