  I attended the Iowa Boys’ State the same year this documentary was filmed and I think it did a perfect job of capturing the weird mix of civics, angst, and tomfoolery that Boys State is. I still remember filibustering in the senate describing the plot of Die Hard to try and stop an amendment that would exclude my city from free healthcare lol.

  This documentary did leave out, however, the roots of Boys State which was that it was a response in the 1930s to the rise of fascist youth camps throughout the U.S. as a hopes of promoting American Democratic values over those of fascist authoritarianism.
