Too much monkey business for me. It is not a good movie for multiple reasons that I don’t want to list cause it already bothered me during the watching of the darn thing.
Such a weird house, architecturally speaking. The new updates mixed with the original structure didn’t flow too well. It seemed like two houses that had to marry. Also, it’s on such a busy street. So many cars all the time. Anywho, the movie didn’t always work but it was a fun concept. I think that was what Steve and Dave were excited about so they succeeded to that point. It could’ve been better but arguably maybe it was as good as it could’ve been. Who’s to say.
My man’s out here creating his own genres. Hamaguchi is unbothered by modern conventions. Side note: Eiko Ishabashi’s score is so fuckin on point I may listen to it to and from work - all the live long day. Ryusuke is five steps ahead of everyone else making meaningful films. Extremely strong first half. Solid but uneven second half. Regardless, it was a really great time at the cinema seeing an almost 4 hr independent art house movie about architecture and a whole bunch of other stuff.
