  Is this a horror film? Perhaps, but as W pointed out, it’s really a tragedy. One of the most dream-like films I’ve ever seen — but notably not nightmarish at all, more like a clear vision of the pain and pleasure of life, that you can’t wake up from.   Some good foley and performances but idk it just never quite landed. Much less complex than Dracula but still too long? Not scary. Gestures towards some interesting ideas around Victorian femininity, madness and sacrifice, but doesn’t develop them. Was rolling my eyes by the end. The rats (including Willem Dafoe) made me laugh tho
