Decent 1st half which seems to set up a film anchored on Brody and Jones' performances. The second half deeply fails to deliver on that promise.

It suffers from a real Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer syndrome where Jones is giving a great performance, but the script gives her almost nothing to do apart from a couple of somewhat artificially melodramatic scenes.
Some beautiful shots, some moments of really beautiful emotion and connection between Jones and Brody but ultimately felt paint…

    Twin Peaks

    ★★★★½

Watched the whole first season a week before Lynch died, impossible to come away from the show without an immense amount of affection for Lynch and his empathy and strangeness.
The score is all-time brilliant, Laura's theme is moving every time they use it!
It's clear why Lynchean is an adjective all to itself.

A really very gentle entry in the Mangold dad-movie, surprised at all the buzz focusing on Monica Barbaro's Joan Baez when Elle Fanning does a really fantastic job as Dylan's first muse. Achieved the music biopic primary goal of forcing me to have Highway 61 playing at all times this week.

A very fun retelling of the classic story, in the lineage of the original nosferatu by cutting a lot of the additional characters and adding another layer of thematic interest.
While it keeps Murnau's addition of the plague/diseasedness of the vampire, Eggers adds his obsession with the divine/mythological feminine to the mix.
Very good performances all around but does feel like a retelling . Glad it was made but it didn't really break new ground for me.
With a little distance visually it does feel a bit like the color remake of Psycho which I think is quite damning
