steve mcqueen has crafted a perfect film.
a film with rhythm. yes it's teeming with music, but the rhythm extends beyond merely sound.
the crowd dances in sync with each other.
the camera dances in sync with the crowd.
the dialogue flows like the best spoken word poetry.a sheaf of bodies moving in tandem with one another. in a space for and accepting of them - in all their forms.
it's all there: the rituals, the excitement, the mystery, the language.
black life deserves this treatment. it deserves to be seen.

pure box office entertainment!
for a film that mostly consists of pierre niney probingly poring over the details on a computer screen, black box is incredibly gripping, suspenseful and thrilling. in fact, part of the fun IS watching pierre niney probingly poring over the details on a computer screen.
it’s a throwback to a time when well-executed, mid-budget thrillers were much more common, and has de palma and fincher’s fingerprints all over it.
excellent third act. earns every second of its runtime.
