I see the reviews for the second film are better, but… I don’t think I’ll watch it. This was so-so, not one of the best found footage films. I think they did well building the tension with the great acting by the lead, but his turning out be a serial killer was a bit predictable and kind of boring in the end.

My favorite part of the movie was when Luke absolutely SLUGGED the creepy old elder, it was unexpected and hilarious. And I didn’t even know “creature feature” was even an available genre! Given they decided to do the hike in memory of Rob, I interpreted their trials as a kind of passage for Luke to eventually come to terms and accept his part in Rob’s death, like when he and Luke were with each other to the and, and especially…
I watched this mostly because people say it’s one of those classic horrors, but I still liked it a lot! had to take away some points because the story was a bit simple for my taste, but I think that simplicity (and also the lovely theme music with its vinyl/scratchy quality) is also what made it so charming. I also like Justin Long a lot, I think he does great in simple movies like this.
I really loved how creative this movie was, from the mixing of fantasy/folklore with the Christmas theme, to the unique take on an age-old character like Santa Claus. The cast also featured some of my favorite actors who worked perfectly together. Overall, a light and fun watch!
