I really really liked this. But at the same time I'm just the tiniest bit annoyed with it bc it feels like it could have been a genuine classic and something that could've relaunched Will Ferrell's career as a dramatic acting force, but the direction and way this comes together does his truly incredible acting very little justice.

It's sweet but melancholic in a surprisingly delicate way considering it's about a life-obliterating crashout. The pacing really helps it there. It…

James Franco is so unlikeable in such a boring way in this movie and that's maybe the most true-to-life thing about this deeply stupid almost 2 hours of meh (????? whyyyyy is this so long??????). I laughed like twice. Right near the start. It was the Eminem interview both times. Green Hornet is Seth's worst movie but this is his most unfunny and that's kinda worse.

A lot's been said about the film's self importance. Maybe, even probably correctly. But it's very true to the weightiness of the kind of creation Riggan is searching for. Scott Pilgrim for Middle Aged People is still just such an insanely beautiful film. I was weirdly transfixed by how it's structured this time. I don't generally care a lot about hyping up nonlinearity but the framing elevates the pacing so much it's hard not to find it absolutely stunning. Kirsten Dunst is kinda the secret star of this I love her so much in this role.
