The Ascent 1977
Devastating -- this truly felt like hell on earth. Desperation and individualistic morality at its most raw human form. Larisa Shepitko sure fucking knew how to make us burn and feel agonizing pain. This is the only "war film" I've seen that transcends being just anti-war and actually slashes your brain with spiritual inevitability, and the lack of redemption in death. I'm completely ripped apart, there is no such thing as a war hero.
