A film explicitly about a crisis of faith - not in god, but in ancient institutions.
One of my favourite things: at the start, Ralph Fiennes sees all the curtains go down to keep them in seclusion and asks ‘is this really necessary?’ Later, after they’re unable to shut the world’s problems out in various ways, a beam of light is coming into the hall, bringing the outside breeze, movement and noise in unbidden. CINEMA!!

Love this film but it’s not a chill watch lbr. Horribly real the way ashitaka chooses peace over and over to the point where he’s actually dying, and everyone just suspects him of being on ‘the other side’ and doesn’t really listen about the enormous environmental threat, even when they can literally see the natural world and all its beauty dying around them
