Catch Me If You Can 2002
Extraordinarily masturbatory film in terms of plot and main character - a love letter to the self written by a con man so good at what he does that he’s conned himself into self mythologization. It’s rescued through dynamite performances by DiCaprio and Hanks as well as a tongue in cheek sense of whimsy from the Spielberg directed and Williams scored film infrastructure that does its absolute best to hide the megalomania that lies at the heart of the freak who’s lived his life being proven wrong. Great (Con) Man Theory in full throttle here. Still had fun watching it

Burn After Reading 2008
Fun movie that lets its ensemble shine like the stars in the damn sky. Closet scene is an all timer. Malkovich is legendary as always. Pitt is ideal in the dumb guy role just as Clooney is in the sociopathic. Friend I was watching with 20 minutes into the movie said “but how are all these characters connected to each other” and said so with complete sincerity. You’ll see, my friend. You’ll see soon enough.
