Eh…for better for worse I have incredibly high expectations Joon-ho based on Parasite, and this one just didn’t hit like I wanted it to.

Intermissions should be mandatory for movies over two hours. Otherwise I’m spending half the movie thinking about when I can go to the bathroom without missing important shit.

Anyone out there have a tiger connection?

80s movies just hit different. Mann drenches every scene with the interiority of the characters to the point where dialogue becomes largely obsolete. It feels intentionally incomplete, leaving space for the audience to enter of their own accord. A refreshing change of pace from the dialogue heavy minutiae of most modern films. Few movies take the risks that Mann takes here, and that’s a shame.

An incredible opening scene that the rest of the movie just can’t live up to. Other than Cage, who (for better or worse) is really going for it here, the rest of the acting is solid. However, I was just never fully invested. Some of the realizations felt artificial and formulaic. I wish we could have slowed down and let everything unfold in a more natural way. With that in mind, while this film doesn’t totally land the plane, it has mood that makes the sit mostly worth it.
