The collective groan in the cinema when she typed ‘I guess you’re not like other guys’ was pure comedy.

This film hits pretty dang hard for me in how it depicts the struggle of friendships. I think it’s a universal experience for quieter, introverted kids but that doesn’t make it hit any less hard: never being picked first, often being left out of groups; honestly the amount of times I’ve had the realisation that I have had best friends but…

This made me really angry. Having spent so much time analysing and digging into Kapadias film 'Amy', I can't help but think that Reclaiming Amy is just a sympathy/cash grad. When you have Amy saying on film that she would only go to rehab if her father told her to (which he never did), I don't trust Mitch when he says that they did everything they could. It is pretty wholesome and the 60s nostalgia was something I critiqued in my first review but I kinda liked it more on rewatch because of the 60s nostalgia. Just a nice chill film. Low stakes, just chill.

It is excellent. Because of the nature of the anthology style, the nearly 3 hour run time doesn’t feel as laborious as it might otherwise feel. The comedy is really funny and the familiar uncomfortable feeling is persistent throughout and added to my already very present anxiety. Very strange film but very good.

This was quite a special watch for me. I studied this in my A Level Film class and the essay I wrote on it was also the essay that got me a place at university, and then I got the chance to put it on the schedule at Warwick Student Cinema on a BFI archive 35mm print. It’s such a good film and one that I’ll always feel sentimental for.
