This feels like an early 2000's sketch comedy you'd see on cable, in the best way possible. The utter lack of a budget is played into so well, every single scene is just so unserious and you can just tell that everyone was having a blast. Such a good hangout movie.
This has been at the top of my rewatch list for about 5 years. Love that 22 y/o me feels the same way about it as 17 or 16 y/o me did.
District 9 is a really charming film to me. It reminds me of all the sci-fi trash I grew up watching, mostly Transformers I suppose, except it's actually good. The designs of the mech suits and prawns (and probably the fucking shaky cam) are so grimy and gray…

Much funnier than I thought it'd be, though I suppose I shouldn't be too shocked having seen Sunset Blvd. It feels really dense too, with just how much happens.
Also why would you pre-game for this?! How does someone look at a black-and-white film from the 60's, on the last week of term, and think, "You know what would really improve this experience? Vodka."
