  The Void 2016

  The Void expertly hails back to the films of John Carpenter while still maintaining a sense of dreadful identity, all on a inspirationally-small budget. Its major downfall, however, is a rushed script that requires a Wikipedia browsing to understand what's going on. It also perhaps blows its load a little too early instead of letting the tension build naturally.

  The Post finds Steven Spielberg sitting comfortably and confidently in top form, a genuinely good film thanks to its tight script, talented cast, and John William's typically high caliber of music. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are typically bombastic and nuanced in their portrayal of these real-life characters, and the supporting cast - Bob Odenkirk, especially - is so good that they each provide rounded heft to the scene without overpowering it.

  A symphony of visuals and sound, Nolan sacrifices his usual inclusion of multi-layered narratives and complex themes to create a stunning, tense, realistic depiction of an important event in World War II.
