I had no idea what this was about or what to expect going into the theatre and then it absolutely blew me away. I’m surprised it is the least-talked about Best Picture nominee. Not many films based on real people can achieve such a strong emotional reaction without overly lionizing the protagonists or glossing over politicized figures and events. While the story is based on historical events (and real individuals), ultimately the film is a family drama that completely reeled me in.

Updated review for round two! Watched this at TIFF and it was one of my favourites of the festival.
