I wish there were more to say than "I liked Robert Pattinson" but honestly I think that's all this movie offered to me. The characters were one-note caricatures of their roles, like "girlfriend", "Dictator", and "other woman that's also there". The overall "message" was muddied by everything the film wanted to say about power and caste systems, which is really disappointing coming from Bong Joon Ho.
I enjoyed the creature design too, but again, that is far from bringing me back to watch this movie again or to confidently recommend it to anyone.
I watched this movie knowing I wouldn't like it because of the director's previous work on The Conjuring ll, but the extent to which I disliked it surprised me. La Llorona is an interesting tale with many variants, and I know my opinion is being swayed by also having watched Bustamente's La Llorona, but I can't help but feel that this retelling was the Great Value version that could be found in the "ethnic" aisle of a neighborhood Walmart. There…
I really enjoyed the experience of the film. It was genuinely scary, the ending was anticlimactic in a way that I wish more horror movies would take note of, and they used the genre of “found-footage” to the fullest. Each time the camera came back on I knew something would be happening that caught the character’s attention, and therefore had my attention too.
