Very funny. On the one hand, this movie is wild, meta, and annoyingly self-reflective. On the other, it more or less has an extremely conventional plot about self-discovery. I guess that's the point.

In the autobiography, the gangster days and the early NOI days are told through reflective nearing-the-end-of-life-Malcolm X's eyes. He's looking back at how the social conditions and state sponsored violence had left him destitute, chasing a futile hustle.
