Planet of the Apes 1968
Simultaneously a lot sillier ("You know what they say, 'human see, human do!'") and a lot more serious (main antagonists being the Supreme Court consisting of Republican orangutan creationists) than I remember from watching as a kid. Despite certain aspects aging terribly in the technical department, it's no wonder this thing led to multiple reboots and such with how fascinating the world/concept is. I also thought I remembered Charlton Heston being a somewhat cliche ruggedly handsome protagonist but for most of the movie he looks (and sometimes acts) more like the guy you'd see jerking off in the corner of the subway at 3am.

Sleepaway Camp 1983
In the 6 months since originally watching this I’ve seen it 4 or 5 different times on account of it being my new favorite movie to show people and it never gets old. Whether it’s seeing people’s reactions to the most insane plot twist of all time, the most insane aunt of all time, the most pedophilic chef of all time, or the fakest mustache of all time, I can’t get enough.

Anora 2024
I mean, not quite sure what all the hype is about but I liked it. It baffles my mind that even in a movie as high profile as this it is still somehow impossible for an actor to pretend to be playing a video game convincingly. You’d think…

Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977
Boring ass movie gave me close encounters of the nearly falling asleep kind.
Seriously this thing is bad, especially the 2 lead characters. Their acting is fine, but the characters themselves are just written horribly. I at least thought the special effects were really great and then we got to the actual aliens.

Taste of Cherry 1997
As someone who’s specifically worked with suicidal people for years now, from the suicide hotline to a psych hospital to being a therapist, you would think this movie would resonate with me, touch me, get me thinking, something. At no point was I not bored out of my mind. The protagonist was not redeeming. The messages were not profound.

Carnival of Souls 1962
Maybe in 1962 this was the scariest shit ever but in 2024 this was the longest 79 minutes of my life. Lead actress can’t even pretend to use a steering wheel properly let alone have a human conversation.
