Sadly Tim Burton makes uniquly vacous films. Nothing in this movie means anything, a terrible waste of a great setting. Some good art direction and ideas, but even on that level this is a dissappointment. Not pretty enough to be this pointless

American Beauty 1999
Real genius, but feels like it was rewritten several times along the way. The final result is unfocused. Some shades of evil gay guy misogyny as well. Nonetheless some amazing ideas really shine through, and Kevin Spacey and Anette Benning give incredible performanes. Overall a fascinating movie and a great refutation of individualist fantasy movies al la Fight Club.
