The best movies, like the worst people, can leave you with scars, with courage in the place of fear, and, if you're lucky, hope.

The Sex Life of the Polyp 1928
Watched on Youtube.
A sketch from the early sound film era that comedically shows a scientist mansplaining the polyp's sex life to a group of women. Unfortunately not very funny for today's viewing habits and although the movie is only 11 minutes long, it drags on.

The House I Live In 1945
Watched on Youtube.
Frank Sinatra plays the role of the teacher in this educational film about religious tolerance. Even though certain parts haven't aged particularly well (the movie was released in 1945), the overarching message is still important, more relevant than ever, and can be applied to more topics than religion. It also features one of the most famous singers in music history calling a bunch of young boys Nazis. Now that's something.

20 Days in Mariupol 2023
Watched on ARD Mediathek.
This documentary is unrateable. So see the 5 stars as a way to push the attention towards this important film.
I am totally speechless. There is only one thing I know for sure: After watching this, no matter if you are a parent or not, the crying of a newborn child will be the most beautiful sound in the world for you.Translated from by -
Sunshine 2024
Watched at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
A touching film about an ever-topical subject from a country we don't know much about here in Central Europe. Garnished with a little comedy to give some hope to the viewer, director Antoinette Jadaone succeeds in portraying the importance of the discourse on abortion and entertaining with many clever ideas at the same time.
