Nosferatu 1922
I was rather surprised by the antisemitic/xenophobic tinge to it all, and upon some googling, I've come to learn that pictures from this film have been used in neo nazi propaganda.
It's interesting to see a microcosm of the horrors of that era: fear of blood-thirsty foreigners who prey on innocent German maidens and spread plague and vermin.
Fears exacerbated by the Spanish flu a few years back, the scars of WWI, and a prevalent hostility to outsiders. Probably not intentional, but nonetheless a curious insight into what was considered scary to audiences at the time.

Metropolis 1927
This is the longest a film had lived on my watch list. I read an article about it when I was 11 or 12 more than a decade ago, and I have had it on my mind ever since.
It's cyberpunk, it's dystopian, camp, and surreal.
It does not feel fair to give films such as this anything below 5 stars, or no rating, as I do not possess the capacity to approach it and critique it from the perspective…
