    Pretty cute! Really fun animation, the robot movement was very creative and kinetic. Some of the writing and the score was a bit on-the-nose/saccharine/manipulative, and my suspension of disbelief was tested frequently... It's no Iron Giant, but there's only one of those.

    I barely know what to say. The intrusion of atrocity around the margins of mundane is such a simple but effective way to completely fuck you up. It reminded me of being on Instagram. The ending is incredible, almost supernatural. It has something in common with the ending of Killers of the Flower Moon, the way it flips the historical perspective. Honestly I was extremely apprehensive going into the movie, for the same reason I've never been to the Holocaust museum, but I think I want to now. How deeply have we injured our souls to enjoy the lives we think we deserve?

    Second viewing earned the last half-star. Definitely the funniest movie I saw in 2023. Emma Stone's calibration of Bella growing up scene-to-scene is so believable, so smooth, and so charming. The innocence with which she delivers the most vulgar lines gets me every time. And basically every time Mark Ruffalo opens his mouth gets a laugh from me.
