  Shoplifters is the Japanese version of this film. Only the characters in Shoplifters had real motivations. This film focuses too much on Momo characterization and his background effects those around him. Then it ends abruptly leaving you wondering... who is Bernadette? Why did she loose here sense of self when Momo managed to keep his intact. Beautiful set design and at times hilariously campy, but my ass is still attached. Maybe I am missing something about traditional french humor.
