God, I love Wong Kar-Wai! Great film about identity, loneliness and love, but it's so much more fun than that. For such a constructed, motif-heavy movie, Wong never lets the brushstrokes get in the way. This is a technical film but there's great artistry here and the technique never feels like it's there for its own sake. Loved it!

I can understand the praise this movie gets considering the time and place it was made, but it feels more like a relic today. The ideals that Bunel is undermining don't feel all that present to me, and so the satire seems a little redundant.
