These kinds of movies are always a little dry for my tastes but this one has just enough juice to make it memorable. Elegant and concise.

This was satisfying overall with a really great performance by Robert Pattinson. Felt like it was going to be arduous in the first 45 minutes but picked up steam and ended up being wacky fun. Not something I’d particularly feel the need to rewatch it, but I appreciate the ambition.

Impossibly beautiful and ahead-of-it’s-time examination of a “soft” young man, the torment he faces at a boys school in the 1940s and the housemasters’ wife who advocates for him and becomes emotionally involved in his story. Surprised this isn’t talked about more often. Definitely needs a boutique 4K restoration.

    Film Streams—Sokolof

This movie is so achingly, sickeningly beautiful. Drenched in honeyed tones and weird emerald light that seeps in from the windows, it’s a Sirkian dream I didn’t want to wake up from. My favorite of Larrain’s three atypical biopics snd Jolie’s greatest performance. The real star here, though, is Ed Lachman, cinematographer extraordinaire. Gorgeous, with an emotional ending that made me cry and want to listen to Brian Eno.
