Evil Does Not Exist 2023
Last film of the year. Glad I ended it on a high note. Hamaguchi tells a somber and meditative story that centres community and critiques violations of nature. Even though it isn’t my favourite of his films, I love the bold choices he makes. His direction and point of view continues to evolve in beautiful ways. The ending loses me a bit, but it stuck with me all week.
